Seminars at Michigan State University
Successful training in modern biology sciences requires that individuals are broadly and deeply trained, including developing familiarity with domain areas outside of your own research. The PBHS program expects that participating students attend seminars and symposia in a variety of subject areas, and Michigan State University has a variety of seminar series relevant to students interested in plant and microbial biotechnology, synthetic biology and computational biology. The core seminar series of interest to our students include:
Plant Biology/Plant Research Laboratories Monday Seminar Series, 4:10 PM, 101 Biochemistry Building. This seminar series includes talks that range from molecular science to ecology and evolution and is excellent for providing breadth to trainees.
Plant Research Laboratories Tuesday Lunch Seminar, 12:00 PM, 168 Plant Biology Laboratory Building. This series includes talks from graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from PBHS participating laboratories.
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Colloquium Series, Thursdays at 11:00 AM, 101 Biochemistry Building. This seminar series has talks that cover the full range of topics relevant to PBHS trainees, ranging from molecular biology and biochemistry of plants, microbes and animals to computational structural biology.

Science at the Edge, Fridays at 11:30 AM, 1400 Biomedical and Physical Sciences Building. SAT includes talks from leaders in the areas of gene expression in development and disease and quantitative biology, including systems biology.
Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and Behavior Interdisciplinary Graduate Program Seminar Series, Thursdays, 3:30 PM in 118 Eppley Center.
Department of Horticulture Spring Seminar Series, on Thursdays at 4:10 PM in A149 Plant and Soil Sciences Building. Talks in this series focus on work done in basic and applied agricultural plant sciences.
