Citing PBHS Support

Requirements for Publications that Cite NIH Support

Acknowledging support from the PBHS training program
The NIH Guidelines on Publications & Citations stipulates that recipients of fellowships must list them under Acknowledgements in any publication they participated in while receiving support. This includes research and review publications, seminars, posters, book chapters etc. and your dissertation. Please choose from these statements:

(Students receiving a fellowship funded by NIH)
"This publication was made possible by a predoctoral training award to XX (your name or initials) from Grant Number T32-GM110523 from National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health" or "The project described was supported by Grant Number T32-GM110523 from National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health " and "Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of the NIGMS or NIH."

(Students funded by support from MSU)
"This research was partially supported by a fellowship from Michigan State University under the Training Program in Plant Biotechnology for Health and Sustainability (T32-GM110523)".

Remember that you must submit manuscripts accepted for publication that acknowledge NIH support to NIH PubMed Central

The easiest way to make sure that publications are compliant is to publish gold open access.

If the journal does not offer gold OA, or it is more expensive than you wish to pay, make sure that you inform the journal that the work was funded in part by NIH. They should provide you with info on how they will submit to PubMed Central (no more than 12 months after the publication date) or instructions for you to submit the manuscript to PubMed Central.
